Calculator Frequently Asked Questions
Fuel cost is calculated using a simple formula:
Fuel Cost = (Total Distance / Vehicle Mileage) * Fuel Price per Liter.
For instance, if you drive 150 km with a car mileage of 15 km/l, and the petrol price is ₹100/liter:
• Fuel needed: 150 / 15 = 10 Liters
• Total cost: 10 * 100 = ₹1,000.
The best way to calculate mileage is the tank-to-tank method:
- Fill your fuel tank completely and note your odometer reading (Reading A).
- Drive normally until the tank needs a refill.
- Fill the tank completely again and note the liters pumped (Liters) and the new odometer reading (Reading B).
- Calculate distance: Distance = Reading B - Reading A.
- Calculate mileage: Mileage = Distance / Liters.
Several factors can decrease fuel efficiency, including:
- Aggressive driving: Rapid acceleration and frequent braking.
- Low tire pressure: Creates more rolling resistance.
- Excess weight: Carrying heavy items in the vehicle.
- AC usage: Air conditioning puts extra load on the engine.
- Poor maintenance: Dirty air filters, worn spark plugs, or old engine oil.
To maximize your fuel economy:
- Maintain a steady speed and drive within speed limits (50–70 km/h is usually optimal).
- Check tire pressure once every week.
- Turn off the engine at long red lights or traffic jams.
- Get your car or bike serviced at regular intervals.
- Avoid loading your vehicle unnecessarily.
